How To Improve The Air Quality In Your Home

If you’re feeling symptoms of allergies like sinus congestion, dry eyes, headache or coughing and sneezing, this could be due to poor air quality in your home. This can be from a multitude of different sources (like mould, dust and other allergens). Here are some tips to help you breathe easy in your indoor

1. Stock Up On Plants: Certain plants, like the Snake Plant, English Ivy, Bamboo Palm, Peace Lily and Spider Plant are all easily accessible, easy to tend to and significantly improve both the quality of air in your home and add a splash of greenery. They are the most environmental, and stylish, way to improve air quality. Plants do their job by absorbing toxins from the air and replace them with oxygen. Homing your plants in decorative pots and place them in interesting places around your home will bring life into your home as well. They work double-time by keeping the air clean and accessorizing your space.

2. Dehumidifiers: If mould is the culprit for the poor quality of air in your home, investing in a dehumidifier will change your life. This is especially handy for already damp places like basements. Dehumidifiers will exchange the moist air in your space for dry air by literally sucking the moisture out of the air.

3. Essential Oil Defusers: If your space is too dry, try to incorporate an essential oil diffuser into your daily routine. This works in the opposite way of a dehumidifier by releasing cold steam into the air, infused with essential oils. You can find them in different shapes, characters, styles, and often they light up. Adding certain essential oils to the water solution can also help improve air quality. Oils that are preferred are Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Lemon and Aloe Vera.

4. Salt Lamps: There’s a reason there has been an insurgent of Himalayan Salt Lamps lately, and this is because the salt naturally purifies the air. It works by dragging the moisture and toxins out of the air and stabilizes them. Keeping your salt lamp by your bed at night or by your desk when you work is a great idea as the very presence and glow of them has natural calming effects as well.

6. Air Purifiers: There are machines made just for air purifications, but they often are unsightly and come with a hefty price tag. They are great options, though, if you’ve exhausted other options. They work in a similar way to dehumidifiers but do not work with water. They simply ‘inhale’ the toxins and release clean oxygen. This solution is ideal if you’re living in a large city (and often have the windows open) or live in a much older home.
